Default Identify steering column part

Pulled the steering column on the 77 today. It is has tilt/tele/cruise control. I removed the steering wheel to help with the removal.

As I was carrying the column a small rod (see picture) fell out when I tilted the top downward. What is it and where does it go?

Column still locks, turns, turn signal still works, and tilt still works.

Any ideas?

It looks like the lock rod for the telescopic function. But you say it still locks, so I can't help any more than that.

Actually I can't try the telescopic function yet, so I think you are correct. I was afraid I would have to tear the column apart, thank you.

I wonder how it installs in the column?

Does anyone have a schematic or picture?

It simply slides down the column in the center hole. Can't go too far, and can only get lost if you tip the column upside down like you did.
