Default New Tires for a 1974

I know that this has been talked about before, but I'm going to buy new tires for my 74 and wondering about sizes. The P.O. has installed 225/70/15 on the front, which I believe is the correct modern tire size? The rear is 255/60/15. What do you think looks best, tall narrow tires or the wider tire?

I like the looks of the 255/60/15. Will the 255/60/15 work on the front without issues? What do you guys think and recommend? Should I stay with a staggered set up? I'm also looking for white letter tires.

Thanks for your input!

I run 245/60- 15 BFG's all the way around. The best of both worlds. No tire rub in the front on my 1970.

I think that the consensus is that 245 60 15s will not rub on the front in most cases. Some have been able to get away with 255 60 15s in the front. Why don't you swap your backs for your fronts and see if you're one of the lucky ones? Also, if you have manual steering, you'll find out if the extra effort is worth it to you.

I run 255's (front) and 275's (rear). No issues here. I guess it all depends on what kind of look you prefer and what you use the car for (cruising, racing, car shows, etc...).

225's look the best and are the most proportional on these cars. Our cars are pretty small and the 55's just look bloated on there. And running 18 inch rims with the low profile tires looks even more silly. Can't tweak to many things and improve on the looks of these cars IMOP. Stock looks the best.

There's no better way to find out.
If they rub 245/60-15s all the way around if you don't want a staggered set up.

245 is the largest size guaranteed to fit a C3, after that some fit, and some rub.
Are you feeling Lucky ?

pretty sure the tire dealer will mount one wheel with a 255/60x15 and test fit it to make sure it doesnt rub. When I went to 255/45x17 on my 69 the dealer had no problem doing a test fit before mounting all the tires.

I was under the impression 255/60x15 was a direct replacement on C3s. I have them(haven't driven yet thrown rod), two of my buddies have them as well.
