1968 Frame Stencil Help.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...1&d=1478191625
I can finally call this finished with the exceptions of some stencil paint. I need some information about the stencil number, size and color for the frame and the drive shaft. Can someone tell me and post some pictures? The trim tag date is May 22, 1968. How much time would have passed from when the frame was stenciled until the trim tag was attached the body? Also, how was the number of shims for the body mounts marked? Were they hash marks or numbers for 68? What kind of mark was used when no shims were used? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,
The chassis and running gear looks terrific!
Lot's of skill and effort showing!!
You must be VERY pleased!!!
The shim counts were written in arabic numerals using a grease pencil.
The frame part number and date was stenciled on to the right side frame while the frame was up-side down. Then stencil was held in place and the paint applied with a roller.
The date on the frame was often several months before the car's assembly date but typically not more than 6 months.
Again… great looking work!
Regards,
Alan
Here's an original stencil (turned over so it can be read). You can locate it by the hole in the frame.
Note 10-26-70 for a car assembled the middle of January 1971.
A shim count on a restored frame.
Note stencil and shim counts.

Thanks Alan, it took awhile but all of the work was done by me.
I was hoping someone else would chime with the correct numbers, color and size for the stencils for a May 68 date.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,
A few vendors sell the frame stencils…. they 'might' all be coming from Quanta, I don't know.
Paragon Reproductions for example sells them. You supply the year and approximate build date.
When I had my stencil made since I had the original I used that date.
Again…. such nice looking work!

Thanks Alan,
I found the information I needed in the Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide by Joseph A. Tripoli Jr. There is a lot of great info there.
