Replica ignition key for 72 Vette
First post - long time reader, but first thread.
I'm curious if anyone knows where one can find a replica of the original ignition keys (see attached). I've searched low and high and it does not seem that there is a company that reproduces anything similar to the original. If anyone knows where I could find a good replacement outside of the basic "GM" key, please let me know. Thank you!

I think those keys were a custom accessory. Pretty sure the GM keys were original.

I think that style were called "cloisonne" and were in Eckler and Mid America accessory catalogs.
Also, Jesser's used to make logo cloisonne keys like that too, but they were not original.

Hi,
For the 70-72 model years there were 2 keys used.
The rectangular key for the door lock and ignition switch, and the oval key for the glove box lock and the spare tire tub lock.
For part of the 70 model year there was a 3rd key for the alarm switch but later in 70 and for 71-72 the switch was controlled by the oval key.
There were certain 'key-ways' for each year that allowed the key to slip into the lock for that particular year.
Regards,
Alan
The key-ways for 71:
Square 'A'
Oval 'B'
There was a 'knock-out' in each key when the car was delivered that contained a stamped code for the 'cut' of the key.
These knockouts were removed by the dealer and given to the new owner.
This key envelope was typically part of the glove box contents.

I used to cut keys in the parts department for a GM dealership.
We never had anything like that in our inventory.
That's somebodies after market key.
A square key began use with the locking ignition in 1969. It was easier to turn and grasp
than the previous octagonal design.
You need to find out if its an A,C,E blank if your looking for an oem style square key.

1972 (76 & 80 too) would have used a "C" rectangular key for the doors and ignition and a "D" oval key for the glove box, alarm & tire compartment. Blank keys with the letter markings for these locks are sold by Corvette web sites or a good locksmith. These came from the factory like Alan mentioned.

You can find similar ones on ebay - search for Jesser's Classic Keys
