Default tilt/telescope

I'm sure it's been asked but was there an option of tilt or telescope for the 68. Mine has neither Thanks Phil

There are aftermarket versions if you really need one to be able to drive the car more comfortably...

Phil, I started some research on this subject because I am quite tall and was looking for a shorter SC to give me more leg room, but I never reached a conclusion on it.

Nonetheless there is info in the attached thread you might find useful...

Other possibilities are:

1. replacing the 16" diameter steering wheel with a 13-1/2" wheel of similar design;

2. removing seat and then removing seat rails/modifying seat mount plates to drop seat another inch or so and positioning seat rearward to bulkhead (leave enough clearance to tip seat back forward when needed);

3. modifying stops for seat back so that you lean back more and have more clearance to steering wheel.

this is perfect timing for this thread.

I'm 6'4" and the only way I can seem to fit in my 68 is to pull the telescoping steering wheel all the way out toward the driver. any closer and my right let does not fit between the when and seat.

Does anyone have a source for a smaller steering wheel that still looks like the original wheel

I'm sure there are many vendors of smaller steering wheels. I got mine from Rik's Corvette Parts. It has similar design with 13-1/2" diameter, black leather wrapped, deep dish with chrome spokes. I shot the leather with interior matching vinyl dye. I like it!

I have a personal question if you were 6 foot and 200 pounds how would the stock telescoping column fit you? The reason I ask I have a stock telescoping column that I may sell and get a Flaming River tilt stock replacement. The car that I reasonlly purchased had the column in it but no seats or dash to check the fit.

I'm 6'4" and 215. for me the only issue with fitting is steering wheel hitting my leg.

Seat all the way toward the rear, and I extended the telescopic all the way out and I fit no issue, my leg clears the wheel I just have to sorta slide it under the wheel to get in. for me I think a smaller wheel would help out a lot

Just get a smaller steering wheel. Going from 16" to 14" (or less) will make a big difference. Of the tilt/tele options, "tilt" would be best as it actually adds clearance when tilted UP.

Probably not, since the 68 wheel is one year only. Any 69-82 steering wheel with the exception of the 76 models will fit the 68 column. 69-75 are black plastic 15". 77 tilt/tele thru 82 are 14" leather wrapped.

I found this one from grant
http://www.grantproducts.com/products/view/77/

While not exact, it would let me retain the wood wheel
