Default C3s at Mecum Kissmmee

Just took a look at the offerings at the Mecum auction. Looks like a nice selection and pretty strong prices. Anyone there that might care to share any more info? I love the triple back '69 convertible 435 car. Looks like it sold for $142K.

Nearly identical cars... the 435 sold for $142500 plus fees and the 400 sold for $75000 plus fees

Wow that 435 estimated price range was 185-225K. I thought selling for 142.5K was a high price for a Corvette. Obviously not many made of the triple black?

What does the triple black refer to. Black paint and black interior obviously, what the last piece of the puzzle?

The missing piece of the puzzle is the black top.
Black is actually not that rare. I see enough real black cars almost as often as other colors. Its just very desirable and MAYBE not as many were made as some other colors. It seems whenever a 69 is for sale whatever color it is, its rare according to who is selling it. You see it all the time, "rare Riverside gold, rare Burgandy, rare daytona yellow, give me a break. Nobody kept records for colors in 69. It would seem orange is the least produced but even that is not so rare to consider it rare, just fewest produced...maybe. All the colors come up just as often but black seems the most sought after. I like LM Blue. Fortunately it seems like it was a popular choice in 69.

Just curious, how many real code 900 triple black L71 435s have you seen. How many do you think were made?

I know 69 data is not really available. And no one likes to speculate. but I will. There are some numbers available for 68. In 1968 black was the least produced color. Less than 2.5% where produced black or 708 cars total. and that includes both coupes and verts with 3 different colored tops and 7 different interior options available. So a triple black vert is rare. At least in my opinion. Now throw in the 435 and that is something special. Again in my opinion. If you apply that same percentage to the 69 production numbers, that puts you at about 940 ish 69 black corvettes. Now reduce that in about half for verts. And you have less than about 470 black verts with 3 different color tops available and 6 different interiors. And again throw in the 435 and there can't be many in my opinion. And I believe that is why it brought the cash..... But I am certainly interested in learning and would love to here thoughts....r

I have never seen production figures for colors in 1968. Exactly what is your source of these numbers? Are they from GM?
Also, applying 68 numbers to 69 is very speculative at best.
As for how many black 69 435s I have seen, the answer is not many but then again there are not many 435s of any color. Prices are higher for black 69 cars but that can be attributed to demand, not necessarily production. The number could very well be lower, but I don't think it could be by as much as the people who own the cars seem to think. Of course, the owners want it to be low but overall I have seen enough total 69s to think otherwise. Either way, prices and demand is higher for black. I would like to have one in black.
