Dave Walters drove his '67 from Miami to the L88 reunion in Illinois...some 1100 miles on the interstate. Of course, he was followed by a truck pulling a trailer with 55 gallon drums of race fuel.
No that is not the car I am talking about ! The car I am talking about is the original prototype car from 66 that they started to build the 67 L 88 platform with. The guy who owns it is a real history buff on corvette racing heritage! Has a 63 Z 06 as well.
I'm not sure which car you are referring to but the Penske car is the first factory L88 and is the original prototype. No other car was fitted with an L88 before it. This is the car DG assembled his race team with through Duntov for Penske. They raced with the Wintersteen GS car as well that year. And the Sunoco GS roadster. Those three cars had the strange prototype hood. The sunoco coupe had the modified rear fenders to fit bigger tires (but made to look stock to comply or should I say circumvent the rules, but the GS cars did not race in the same class so didnt need to look stock)
