Left and right Side view mirrors
I guess I have just gotten used to two mirrors.
I want to but a new left and right side view mirror. A good time to do it since the car needs paint.
Anyone do this? Where did you get your mirrors? Do you like the modification?
I wanted mirrors like the newer cars as the mirrors tend to move when I time trial the car (wind).
Any help appreciated.

The 77-79 Corvettes were available with dual painted sport mirrors, as an option. They were made standard on 80-82's. The left side was a cable remote mirror, and dual power remote mirrors were optional starting in 81.
Though the mirror head (or capsule) are the same as other GM cars, the stands were unique to the Corvette. Using Camaro or other GM mirrors, will result in the mirror being at an odd angle.
The sport mirrors don't stand up to tall on the door as the chrome ones, so the view from them is a little more obstructed by the rear fender bulges.
Left side, cable remote, sport mirrors are available for $140 as reproductions, but you'll have to find a used right side mirror.

Below is a picture of the left hand repro (from Corvette Central's website). I use to have a pair of used ones off of a 79. I can take a look at work on Monday, and see if I still do.

The driver side chrome mirror on my 76 would move at highway speeds. Since once its adjusted it stays in the same spot I used Super Glue on the ball joint of the mirror. Does not move now

A passenger side view mirror would be nice when backing up next to a curb. I've been considering this too. Thanks for starting a thread.

What started this is I had the car at New Jersey Motorsports Park and my good friend who is a racing instructor insisted I add a mirror for him to make sure my blind spot was covered. The car needs some repair, so seems like a good time to add the second mirror.
Still not 100% sure if I want to stay with the stock looking chrome that move or "sport mirrors" that will be less susceptible to wind from the time trials.

I like that idea! I got so sick of people moving my car seat I removed the rails and anchored it where I wanted it. This is a similar, put the mirror where you want it and glue it there.

I know of 2 sources for the chrome repro's, one US and one foreign.
From my experience, the quality is about the same, though the castings of the US made ones are probably a little "crisper". The US ones are made by Paragon and sell for about $75, while the foreign ones are made by a company that only does wholesale, and sell for $45-$60, depending on the retainer.
Unfortunately, whether they're GM ones or US or foreign repro's, they all seem to "flop" eventually.
I've been a little busy lately and didn't get a chance to look for the pair of sport mirrors I have. We're supposed to get snow tomorrow, so maybe it will probably be quite, giving me a chance to look for them.

Had the same problem with my 6t8 at Road America. Sustained high speeds would cause 1 or both mirrors to fold in. Yes I replaced the mirrors and I even tried the super glue trick. I purchased some used sport mirrors from a corvette salvage shop. It's a big job to install them, they use studs and to access the nut installation the glass needed to be removed. They are correct about the reduced visibility but you get used to it and it's definitely better than your mirrors being folded in. They use a different mounting location than the chromies, so get some measurements from a vette that has them. T

I was looking at my chrome 73 mirror briefly last night and it almost looks like you could drill, tap and install a 2-64 set screw on the bottom side of the mirror where the balljoint fits into the base. The set screw could be easily loosened to adjust the mirrors then snuggled up once set. Another option could be to adjust the mirror to the full up and side to side positions and using a small ball peen hammer and punch, put small punch marks on the balljoint slightly distorting an area on the ball so that when you adjust the mirror to its normal driving position, the distorted area around the slight punch marks would hold the mirror in place. Just a thought

My passenger side mirror will not adjust far enough to be used by the driver. It will not turn in that far.
Where can I get one for the right side that can be seen by the driver? 72 convertible.

I saw a thread going on this site for adding power C-5 mirrors to a C-3. Guys claimed you could actually see well in the mirrors past the rear fender hump. Still on the fence on that mod though.
