#1 Read as much as you can on this forum first before jumping the gun. Wish I did, would have saved me time/money.
When someone tells you it needs a re-spray... well paint is going to hit you over $6k easy unless you know someone that deals with Corvette's and the fiberglass body.
Rust, birdcage and frame... tap it w/ a coin and check the sound. Birdcage being rusted out is common and basically means you do a frame off restoration. I got lucky and my car while a northern car in salt areas (IL and PA), must have never or rarely been driven on salty roads and my cage and frame are solid.

Another thing, if you are specifically looking for #s matching car.... before schlepping it across the country to look at it, have the owner take pics of the #s on engine/tranny and send them to you.
Again, use the forum as much as possible. There are guys on here w/ cars to sell and I wish I explored them first and went that route vs. buying off eBay back about 12 years ago (I could have saved some $ for sure, not that my car was bad but it neeeded the "respray of the hood that should only be a few hundred bucks" which cost me over $6,300 to redo the car right, rebuild the orig tranny, horrible brakes, interior was really worn and had to be redone, etc...). They should be upfront w/ what needs work on them.

I bought my car from buyavette.net. They are in Atlanta so I drove down and looked at the car personally. It was exactly as they described. Give their website a shot. If you see something you like, I guarantee they will be honest with you. You could fly in and drive back. NYC isn't that far from Atlanta!

Ike, in the C3 classifieds is a nice 69 435 car. Phil is on Long Island and is a very respected and knowledgeable guy in the Corvette community. I have been to his place and seen his collection. I also looked at a car he was selling for a forum member. He is a straight shooter. Go take a look at the car.

Bill beautiful car and close but out of my budget I am afraid!!!1
BUT in the meantime, look what followed me home over the weekend.............
1972 Ontario Orange out of Connecticut all matching!!
If the picture looks familiar it is from the C3 sales ad from the forum. (thanks Mike!!!) lots of questions to ask to try to get some of the minor non original components corrected.
But work is going to get in the way for all while. So to be continued!!!!!!
Thanks again all Ike
