The rear of the stinger hood is open above the rear cross member/support. After cutting the front opening it will allow plenty of air flow or fresh air to your carburetor inlet. More fresh air the better as far as i am concerned. I have seen guys around the net, running mechanical block off plates or louvers to keep the rain and debris from entering the front opening in severe weather.

My hood is the same.
I was thinking about the fiberglass stinger hood that I had for my 67 Camaro. I had to cut open the back side of THAT one. Very rare aftermarket item in 1969. Paid $50 for it! I never opened up the front of that one. Sold it in 71 to finish my senior year in college (yes, I am old ).
