Open stinger hood scoop
My car is getting painted. I've decided to have them cut open the scoop and use this grill material in the opening. It should cut airflow 50%. I was just wondering if anyone has a functioning forward scoop and if they have any problems.
I have no heat problems that I'm trying to correct. I just want a working scoop.

You know i love the customs and modification but with open aftermarket scoops what concerns me is water,
i recall a camaro i had with l88 hood when it rained water would roll to the back of the scoop and soak the engine, so the open front scoop is gonna pelt water on everything if you drive in the rain...you may or may not care

That is a concern of mine as well. She aint no DD but that dont mean I'll never get caught in a popup summer shower here in south Georgia. I can tell ya that its been 2 years since a raindrop hit the car and I dont water wash often. I usually use a spray detailer to get the dust off.
My plan is to fab some kind of plug to pop in if I get rain caught.

If nothing else I could use a strip of duct tape. I'm not kidding either. I would have no problem slapping some duct tape over it to get me home.
But I'm sure I'll find a better alternative.

Back i the a 80s buddy had me help him install some electric door for the back of his trans ams scoop,
It was really cool to watch it open when you stepped on it,
At some point it got stuck open car parked in florida down pour and messed engine...yikes

I cut mine out and used it that way for about a year before I cut a bigger hole in the hood to accommodate my next engine. I never did get caught in a full blown downpour with it but, did drive through a few light rains without any problems. The air cleaner was a little wet afterwards but dried right up. The picture is right after I cut the opening and shows how close the air cleaner is to the opening.

I would be curious as to whether you have any plans to determine the actual airflow at the scoop opening.

Following this thread as I have the Eckler's stinger hood for my project.
Always wondered if cutting open both ends would help or just the rear for the induction air.
I know my original 75 hood had the rear flapper piece but I sold off that hood and flapper a long time ago.
One could always fabricate and install 2 flappers with manual switches inside.
I'll be interested to see what comes of this.....

Thanks Terry but I already have what I need.
The holes are 1/4 Dia. If I dont like the looks I may contact ya. Thanks again
*The above hood pict is exactly how my hood looks. I have that same opening in the rear. Almost a mini cowl.

I was thinking something simple that I can throw around for a plug
Maybe like this made from hard plastic with a couple of screw bolts I can fit into grill and use wingnuts.
