Default Pillar Post Weatherstripping - help?!

I feel like this should not stump me, but it does. The weather stripping for the pillar post has a little tail on it that Corvette America says wraps under the front of the windshield (see "E" in pic below). They are telling me that its the same for the coupe and convertible. Neither driver nor passenger side has room to take this little "tail" piece under the window. Further, this piece is hardened/molded with two screw holes which I cannot line up anywhere.

Anyone had experience with proper installation of the pillar post weatherstripping that could help me out?

Hi tw,
The 'tail' continues on down and is screwed/glued to the top of the hinge pillar. It's intent is to form a 'gutter' to divert the water.
Regards,
Alan

71.

I just replaced the 40+ year old "B" pillar (back edge of door glass) weather stripping on my '73.

It was a real bitch to get it back in the retainer, in fact, had to expand the retainer slightly to get it to fit right. Other advice from the internet suggested using caulk rather than weather strip adhesive to secure the back side.

Seems to be working fine so far.

They used the pillar weather strip with the gutter on 68 to 71. What year is yours maybe they sent you the wrong weather strip.

Thanks for the pics Alan! That's helpful.

My Vette is a 1972. The old weatherstripping on the car either a)wasn't done right as the "tail" is missing, or b)to 69FASTFUN's point, is not supposed to be on a 1972. Is that true that it's only for 68-71? Corvette America has it listed as 68-72.

Hi tw,
The 'gutter' wasn't part of the a-pillar weatherstrip for the 72 model year as 69FF indicated.
Apparently the formula for rain changed some during the Summer of 1971 and the doors no longer leaked water into the interior.
Regards,
Alan

Haha! I guess there's no harm in installing it on a 72. I appreciate the help!!

The inner door area was conformed differently on the 72 and newer cars. What will happen is when you shut the door you'll wear out the gutter... Someone put these on my 72 before I purchased it and they were destroyed, and the doors were hard to shut until I replaced them with the correct weatherstrip.

Corvette America has them listed incorrectly. They fit 1968-1971.
