Can any of you Carlisle Veterans recommend some good places to stay close to the show in August?

We come up from the South on Interstate 81 and have found staying in Chambersburg, about 30 miles south works well. Getting to and from the fairgrounds is pretty easy via I-81. There are plenty of nice hotels along I-81 and you can book rooms pretty easily up until July and August. Most of the nice hotels in Carlisle have their rooms booked a year or more out, so that can be a challenge even now.

Are you driving or flying in? If you're flying in, Harrisburg is 15 miles east and hotels are convenient and plentiful there as well.

Local hotels are usually booked about a year in advance. I have always stayed in Harrisburg and then drive down to the show. That also puts me closed to other attractions such as Hershey and Amish country.

The Marriott Courtyard in Mechanicsburg is a nice place and the back road drive to the show field is a good one that takes you past the Army War College while avoiding most of the show traffic.

Drive a little, save a lot. I stayed at the Motel 6 in Harrisburg. Several vendors were staying there, too. About a 20 minute drive in the morning.
