Just curious, how did a 327 end up in your 70 Corvette?

Could you check the casting date? It will be a single letter followed up up to four numbers. The casting date is located on the rear of the block below the distributor and above the bellhousiing mounting surface. Based on the assembly you list it might read something like this I153 the last number is the year and could be 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
