wtd dash speakers for a 1971
Wanted a set of dash speakers for my 1971. I did find a set but upon delivery they didn't work. If anyone has a set of working dash speakers for a 71 that would be great. Even if they are from a different year thats ok as well. thanks

Try calling your local GM dealer.
Sounds crazy I know, but the same speakers were widely used throughout the Chevrolet line. I had to swap out the end connectors and drill two holes in the speaker frames but they fit and worked perfectly.
PS: The dealer did happen to have the older books for part number reference.

I'm confused. Are you trying to get original 4x6 speakers for under your dash?
I would be really surprised if you could get 40+ year old speakers that still worked.
Why not replace them with current speakers?

Trust me on this, don't install an original set of 4X6's from that time frame. The black liquid tape type compound on the paper cone covering the speaker coil to braided wires going back to the terminal lugs has hardened and things don't flex well. The extremely thin coil wires shear off when the volume is cranked up and that's why these speakers fail. It's old age related and it IS repairable.
I'd suggest you take your original speakers and send them off to Ron McGee at Jackson Speaker Service, 3921 Pine Crest Ct., Jackson, MI 49203, 1-517-789-6400. I can't even imagine how many thousands of those he has rebuilt - and he's not expensive!
Also, if you do go with an 8 to 10 ohm aftermarket speaker (unless you get them from www.turnswitch.com - those are made for your car's radio), be sure to re-adjust the radios internal bias control and the one in the stereo demux on the firewall (if it's a stereo).
For what it's worth...
