These horn buttons were a recall item in 77. They claimed the sun reflected off them into the drivers eyes. Replaced with painted ones in interior color.

Do you mind me asking what you paid for it? I have seen them but not sure if I wanted one but I've seen them from $50 to $200 so never knew what they are really worth.

Don't know how much they are worth, but I have one on my 77 and it sure has never been a problem with the sun. Funny that this is an item they recalled. I like the looks of mine, but can't say I have driven one with the painted version.

Is your tele lock also stainless steel also?

The 77 horn button had a brushed chrome finish, not stainless.
The horn buttons weren't recalled because they reflected sun into driver's eyes. Federal law sets standards for the level of reflectivity of interior surfaces, and the 77 horn button didn't meet the Federal standards. GM had stopped using the chrome button by December 76, but the recall didn't take place until late in 77.

They aren't "rare" but they aren't easy to come by either; the tele-lock is even harder to find. (I love my pair - not "in-your-face" loud or anything, just mildly different than the painted ones)

Thanks for your response, I have installed it on my 81 - love the way it looks, I removed the color coded tele lock and installed a satin black one ( to match the spokes on the steering wheel) looks like it came from the factory that way , but it did not. would love to find the tele lock to match it. you don't have one to sell- do you? this whole fiasco of the recall of this horn button was more than likely a through back to Ralph Nader and his crusade for safety. thanks Pat..
