Removal of 73 front urethane bumper
I'm thinking of removing the front urethane bumper on my 73 and repair a few cracks and repaint. Are there any members on the Forum that have done this, looks like it could be a simple project, but you never know....Thanks

dude....I guarantee that most (if not all) the retainer bolts are rusted and will snap off when you put a wrench to them. You'll just have to get new retainers...no biggie. removal of the bumper should take no more than 30 minutes.

Don't remove it. 98% chance the thing will start to crack.
Also, getting it back on and lined up properly ... not easy.
If you're taking it off, plan on buying new (urethane or fiberglass).
Just my opinion, but don't say I didn't warn you.
Urethane can be repaired ... plenty of 2-part plastic repair products.
basically - flexible epoxy.

I replaced mine but really had no choice as it was largely MIA when I bought the car. I like the truflex one I have now. If you remove it you'll need a new SS bolt/retainer package. I went with all indivual bolts instead of the original factory-type strips that have several bolts each fixed on them. The four bolts in the nose are a joy! I used tape to hold them in place long enough to get nuts started on them... You may consider taking a portion of it down to bare and seeing what the composition of the urethane is. If it is sort of gummy and doughy - get a new one!
