Default Help installing seat cushions on 79-82 seats

I am stuggling to get the back seat cushions installed into the seat enclosure/frame. These are the pre-covered cushions. The bottom's clipped in fine but I cannot seem to get the backs to clip in. Any advise?

gently bend the foam, should pop in with a bit of effort.

Also I bent the wire hooks so they would stick out a little further, and it was still a bear to get them in but doable

I recently did my '78 pace car which is the same seat pan. First, cut away any excess foam from around the attach wires in the seat foam. IMPORTANT! Make sure the hog rings are no where near the seat wires where they could interfere with installation. Next,Use 2 long screw drivers. Hook the wire and pull it away from the foam as far as possible while using the other to guide it under the hook. BTW, pry the hooks in the plastic pans open a tad...it helps! Do the top first, then bottom on same side. Turn it around, carefully applying pressure on your newly hooked seat back so it doesn't pop back out. Then use the same technique on the remaining side. I called Knoch to get those tips and believe me....be prepared to sweat a bunch too.
Good luck,
Mike

Thanks for all your input. I am going to have another try at installing using the screw driver trick and removing some more excess foam. If no luck then I will go for the velcro approach.

Buffed78... where did you attached the velcro...sides of the cushons or bottom

I dunno...I think its worth the sweat if you can possibly re-hook the wires. If velcro does work, than you must have used quite a bit and I don;t think it would stand up very well to heat an time.

I did mine last year using two long screwdrivers. Having a friend helping is a good idea too. Definately get them hooked to the clips. Good luck!

Thanks for your posts. I was very close to giving up and going the velcro solution. But, after working with it for a while I was able to get them in using the two screw driver method along with your other suggestions...eg cutting away some of the foam. What a bear and bad design this is. Oh well...done now. Thanks again to the forum

Default Seat Replacement

Use A Flat Head Screw Driver At Least 10" Long Bend At A 30 Deg. Angle And Cut A Notch In The Tip To Grab The Wire On The Seat Back.
