In 1984 I ordered an LS7 from chevy. ($2208.00)I tore it down when I got it. Iron big ports,12.0 -1,ZL1 cam(which I still have)normal good stuff in the bottom. I put in a 68' camaro (bracket car) with a Nash 5 spd. (3100#) Ran 10.40 to 10.60's w/ 4781 and a strip dominator. Took a pair of 4779's of one of my superstock modified motors and an old tunnel ram from Edelbrock and a .640 lift Lunati and ran 9.55 to 9.70's . Traded it to a friend who ran it in Super Gas for three seasons. Pretty wicked old piece.

Yes Jughead, they only came with cast iron heads. Aluminum heads were available but as a seperate over the counter piece, however not with the crate LS7.

I really didn`t need it but your right. It cant be built for that price and thats why I went after it. All the best of parts and actually close to 550HP+ right out of the box. Much better than a 502. I figured it as a win win situation.
thanks men. I got to have a rum and coke over this.

You didn't go wrong !! I ran that thing w/ 4.88 gear, shifted @ around 6400, crossed at around 6800. One time I got crazy and stuck a 5.38 in it . Crossed @ nearly 8000 . It's tongue was kinda hanging out .Ran it the whole night then took it back to 4.88. Stock bottom end.

And I'll buy. How did you know? With my birthday coming and all, we'll just slip that little ole bad boy in my 68. [ and I'll even pay your mechanic this time ]. You're the greatest pops, gee thanks.

I have a crate LS7 in my 66. You better have the car pointed in the right direction when it hits 4000 rpm. One cool old school motor. I have a friend who has a very low milage one for sale.

Actually it can be viewed in my "My Corvette Pictures" right here on the forum. It ran low 11`s at 120+, not quite as good as yours, but mine is basically a stock looking street sleeper. No bar or cage, and the track got excited because of safty reasons. However, truthfully I have really been getting the heat from the home front all this past weekend long. I may have to give it back to the seller if this doesn`t blow over. Something I really dont want to do. Any suggestions?

To this day I consider it the best money I ever spent ! After my Super gas buddies finally broke it , they made a 475 on alcohol (crank's all that's left) making almost a 1000 h.p. I bet that crank has 2000 runs on it ! (I should have never started racing superstock modified ) o well
