Default Goodyear Eagle ST still made?

My '78 PC has Goodyear Eagle ST tires on it. 225/70 R15

Need new tires, but have not been able to find them on-line. No Goodyear dealer in town. Are they discontinued?

I like the raised white lettering look, tread seemed to be fine for my needs. Anyone have any info. or advice?

Thanks in advance.

-Kev

I replaced mine about 5 years ago. Goodyear still made th ST's but with pin strip letters instead of solid bold letters. The store called the warehouse and found 4 of the bold letter tires for me (and for about $30 less).

As long as you're replacing the tires, why not go back to the bigger 255/60X15 tires that were standard on the Pace Cars? They look a lot nicer!

Sure you did not mean Goodyear Eagle GT's ?
Go to the Tire Rack(online) and you will find Goodyear Eagle 11 which is basically the same as the old GT'S,I think. In any case, you can get the Eagle GT11 in the size you mentioned or in the P255-60-15's.

The Eagle is "ST"is no longer in production. I have had many e-mails with Goodyear concerning there lack of choices in a RWL tire in a size that fits the Vette. You can get the "GTII" or the "NASCAR" edition Eagle in RWLs and that is about it. These tires are identical other than the lettering. I opted to go with the Firestone "Indy 500" tire this time around as I have not had the best of luck with Goodyear products in the past, including the "ST" on a old Camaro I had. Plus the Indy 500 race always uses the VEtte as it's pace car so I figured the Firestone seemed like the way to go for hertage sake and all of that. The BF Goodrich radial TA in another option for a RWL tire as well.

Easy. Just break the driver's side seat adjusters!

I am intrugued with your suggestion, Mike, thanks. I like the big tires look, I just didn't know what came stock, thought it best to stay with what was on my 78PC when I got it.

Am I correct to assume I can get Goodyear Eagle GT II ( or something similar) tires in the 255/60 R15 size with solid white lettering? (instead of the outside white lettering)

The standard on the Pace Car was the open lettered Goodyear GT. these have not been made in years and fetch a premium buck for old tires. For some reason Goodyear doesn't license to Coker. Goodyear has been having troubles, so I suspect thye may license to Coker soon.

I believe Coker does mainly Firestone vintage tires while Kelsey does the Goodyear line. I spoke with them too, they gave me the impression it would be many years before they started making any new versions of the old Goodyear tires. I have been down many paths with the RWL tire selection. The selection is not pretty.

By the way Fabric8r, you can click on my photos under my avatar and see the difference between the tire sizes. The one labled "curb2" is a Goodyear Eagle GT+4 white outlined tire in a 225/70R15 size. The others are the Firestone tire in a 255/60R15 size, if that helps you out at all.

The 1978 Pace Car came with the P255/60R15 tires or the GT Radials. If you check the tire pressure decal on the driver's side door jamb, it should read the tire size equipped on the vehicle. [/quote]

Kelsey Tire has been making the Good Year GT Radial since 2010 and I see the price has gone up as well but here's the link. But these would be new tires to modern specificiations.Kelsey Good Year GT Radials

Here's a link to an article published in Corvette Enthusiast when they rolled out.

Goodyear is now goodyear/dunlop.... you would be surprised how many brands are now owned or distributed by them now... I have equipment in some of thier engineering depts. I didn't realize how many of the off brand tires were made by them too.

They need to lock old threads (especially 8.5 year old threads) and allow only the OP to re-open them (absent a very good reason for someone else to do so).

In case you guys aren't familiar with how forums work..... there is a search function for smart people to use and educate themselves on a topic and contribute if they can this way they can get the answers they need much quicker and don't have to wait and hope for an answer to come unless the search came up empty.
....if everyone started a new thread on the same topics instead of doing this there would be even hundreds of more threads reinventing the wheel on the same topics, each thread less informative and ironically because there are sooo many different threads on the same topic the likely hood of some being full of bad info is higher since less info and experience is contributed to each one....
For this reason as well as to add useful info (like the fact that 5 years after the original question was asked the the answer changed as the GT tires in question are made again.... so someone searching this topic or Googling it will now find this very useful info.
I for one appreciate this because I use the forum search function as well as Google and a few long informative threads is better than 20 small dead end threads that all seem to counterdict each other depending on the few people that participate because they are sick of answering the same questions over and over and wish people would just use the damn search function and take a few minutes to read the answers already provided before asking the same common questions posted every other day.... there is a point when a thread becomes too long but this is hardly the case.
