Default 4 hole spacers and vacuum leaks

So I mounted a holley squarebore on a 1" 4 hole spacer, on top of a performer EPS squarebore manifold. One face of the spacer is solid with just the 4 holes. The other side is "cutout" from the molding. There is a ridge around the 4 holes and around the outside edge that seals. Well guess what if you put the cutout side toward the manifold. The manifold tapers in towards the front so the edge lip of the spacer doesnt seal. It sticks out beyond the manifold.
Result: A big vacuum leak on each side of the carb, near the center.
I'll try flipping the spacer over and see if it seals all areas on the carb.
Anyone else run into this?
Also, what should the torque be on the 4 carb bolts?
Gary
