Default Saving another 68. Need elec help re:wiper

Just bought another ole yeller a 68 vert this time another Safari Yellow. Need help with the elc. on wiper door.
Here's what does work now after reconnecting all vacuum lines.
Door opens with override.
Wipers runs in both high and low speeds with door fully opened.
Wiper shuts off and parks the blades correctly when off.
Door parks correctly when override is switched back off.
Any thoughts?
It has got to be the wiper relay or the sellonoid doesn't it?
The sellonoid was not connected when I bought the car and the wipers didn't work. (the motor was smoked)
The sellenoid is either on or off. Pretty simple.
Does the wiper sellonoid need to be grounded?
Is there any way to test the relay and sellonoid?
Thanks
Dave

If you're speaking of the solenoid on the back of the tachometer, yes, it needs to be functional for the system to work.

Also, the OFF/ON switch within the instrument bezel needs to be grounded. Many aren't, as the bezels are broken and there's no electrical ground continuity.

Also, 68 wiper motors are unique in their wiring...different from 69 up. I don't know the differences, just that they're different. Chuck

Do you have on info on testing / energizing the relay or the sellonoid?
I assume I can energize positive and make sure I have good earth on the sellonoid and I should get a small sound as it switches. ( I assume it is doing the same function as the manual override just electrically in conjuntion with the wiper switch) How about the relay?

Yes , the tach mounted solenoid (vacuum motor control solenoid) needs to be grounded.
The solenoid has a little plunger in it that when energized, slides back to allow vacuum to flow to the system. My solenoid had a sticky plunger. I was able to drill out the rivets to take it apart and then clean/lubricate it. I used small screws and nuts to put it back together.

Nice pic Bryan. Is that out of the Service manual? I don't remember seeing one there. I saved the pic for future reference just in case.

This is a good place to start.

This fixes not only the open close issue but also some weird issues like when you shut down the car and your wiper door opens then closes etc. If your wipers work when the door is opened via the door override switch then your grounds are good. I would start by cleaning your door solenoid.

Eric,
It's a 68 wiper system wiring diagram that came with a copy of a Chevrolet Service bulletin. I submitted the complete bulletin to the corvettefaq website. It has a lot of great info on the 68 wipers.

theandies,
That's the procedure I followed and it worked like a charm.

You can't imagine how much this helps. I will try to do as you did to free the selonoid. With all my testing it seems like that is the place to start.
Thanks again.

We have success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't tell you how much hair I was pulling out. Wait.... I have no hair!
Took assembly apart as you suggested. Cleaned it up and whalah it's working. Schematic from 68rdstr was a plus too. Now I can start putting it back together.
Thanks for all the help.
More gratitude than I can express.
Dave

BTW
I tried to find that part online and it looks like it's not available.
I suppose you could even go as far a rewinding the coil if you had to.
Corvette boy scout merit badge for that.
