Your basic 150 hp 350 won't stand up to any hammering. That tranny will live if you granny shift.

I have not used one in a C3, but have driven a lot of C4's with them and I really like it. It is an overdrive, but I like to think of it as an automatic trans. overdrive unit on the back of a 4 speed stick. Once you know how to drive them they are really nice. They are awfully expensive to work on and not that stout as far as holding up to high HP goes. For your money a BTO auto or 6 speed from Keisler would be a better deal.

I once heard them described as "a pretty good 250hp tranny", which is exactly what they were teamed with when they were in production. Hard use or pairing them with higher hp motors shortens the life of the little OD unit dramatically.
Asking about the 4+3 in the C4 section would likely result in some interesting war stories.

Alriiiighty then...on to something else in my attempts to find an affordable, strong overdrive manual. I would love to know why GM went to the new clutch design on the T56...were they just trying to keep us from using junkyard transmissions in old cars???
