Default 1981 automatic flexplate

how many teeth does this flexplate have? 153 or 168? The manual flywheel is 168, I know. I switching from auto to manual and wonder if the starter or starter drive needs to be changed. thanks in advance, jim

If the flywheel on the engine is already a 168 tooth unit, then you will stick with a 168 tooth flexplate.

I don't have my one book with me but...the starter mounting bolt pattern dictates which flywheel/flexplate to use. I may have this backwards but,... if the starter mounting bolts are straight across from each other it's a 153 tooth flywheel. And if the mounting bolts are staggered across from each other it's a 168 tooth flywheel.
I will get my book back from the shop tomorrow to verify which variation is correct. This is from a GM engine manual.

Before I changed my 81 from auto to manual it had a 168 flexplate.
