Default WHich intake manifold with the Vortec heads?

I was wondering if the vortec heads require a special intake manifold or can i use an edlbrock RPM preformer intake with it. Thanks

I had a machine shop tell me yesterday that it is possible to use your existing manifold with the Vortec heads. They said that they have a template to drill out the correct holes in the existing setup. I am going to get more info on this from them and I will post if it turns out to be true...

The vortec heads do take a special (vortec) intake manifold that fits it, but good news.....there is a vortec RPM Performer Air Gap & other intakes available from Edelbrock.

Do not use a reworked standard intake - it won't seal well. You can use any vortec specific intake, but with a C3 you are really limited to the performer due to hood clearance.

The mismatch also effects the airflow!

SO the Edlebrock RPM air gap preformer will work. Will it fit under a stock 73 corvette hood?

I have a '69...the RPM Air Gap would not fit under the stock hood (Edelbrock warns of this in their catalog)....I now have an L-88 hood....

Your best bet might be buying a new Vortec style intake. The intake runners on the heads are different than older heads. Drilling hole on the heads will allow a conventional intake to be mounted but I don't think it will match the ports correctly.

What is your max RPM? I am using the std Vortec Performer with about a 5700rpm redline. It works super with the broadest powerband I have ever seen in a 350.

My plans were to build a motor with vortec heads and intake so Im not sure what my redline would be. I have not selected a cam shaft yet.
