Default spark plugs

Guys, anyone know the difference between the ac r45ts and the r44tx other than the heat range. I run r45ts's in all my 350 chevy HEI's, I'm trying to figure out why they say to gap the r44tx (plug gm says to use in the Vette) at .060". seems a little wide, the heads are just standard 882's with a flat top pistons, I know a lot of guys run the platinums but I don't. any imput??

The TX is a "Wide Gap" plug intended for use with a "High Energy Ignition" (HEI).

The -TS is for standard (points/condenser/coil) ignition.

Thanks, car is missing and backfiring bad, has an HEI distributer had r45ts plugs gapped at .035" I opened them up to .055" but had no luck, put in a brand new billet distributer with 50,000 volt coil and its still bad. Ordered the r44tx plugs, try them later. .060" seems like a big gap even for HEI.

I have had vehicles that used a .060 gap - ran great. It's all in what the ignition system can deliver.

I'm not convinced that plugs are your problem. Is your engine grounded well?

Usually it's not ignition, your right, looks grounded OK, I have to drain the fuel as I just picked this up and the inspection sticker is from 97, It was pretty much empty and I just dumped 3 gallons of super to try to move it. I did drain and clean the carb. I noticed that the plug wires are metal shielded and they have grounds on them that are not hooked up. I'm trying to do the obvios befor I get into the valve train and timing chain ect.

Just an FYI guys, it was the plugs, the 44tx plugs don't sit as deep and the conductor is flush. I put them in and the motor runs great. Thanks!
