Default 69 master cylinder

I am trying to replace the master cylinder on my 69. It is a small block, 4 speed with power brakes. My manual is very vague, but seems to suggest that I have to remove the entire vacuum booster and master cylinder as one unit.
I removed the nuts holding the master cylinder to the booster. The pushrod doesn't want to come out of the master cylinder. I really hate working up under the dashboard. Is there a way to disengage the master cylinder from the booster without removing the entire assembly ?
Thanks for any suggestions,

Recently did my 68 coupe smallblock with power brakes and I removed the master cylinder and left the booster in the car. Should come right out.

I agree the rod will come out .You may have to use a little force. You don't have to pull the booster

What book are you looking at? There is no car I'm aware of, that is designed to force booster removal just to do the master.

BTW make sure that you bench-bleed the new master before attaching it to the booster again.

Some cars have the pushrod solidly joined to the master cylinder with a clip embedded inside the master cylinder piston. In some of them, the booster does have to come off to disengage the M/C. The C3 is not one of them, but they do exist.

the rod is just gunked on the booster. give it a little tug and it will come off. I just changed the one on my 69 and it worked fine. 2 bolts and a little effort it will work.
