No juice...
Completed install of new transmission two days ago.
I spent the last two days "adjusting" the TV cable to get the shifts smoothed out. After a 30 min spin yesterday afternoon, I brought it home and parked it. So close to perfect, I thought last night. Maybe a wiggle or slight re-route on the cable and that would be that....
This morning, went out to start it up and absolutley nothing....
No interior lights, no horn, no brake lights, no solenoid and no start.
Zip, zilcho, nada...
I started here:
Battery: Green indicator, took a small charge with the charger on. More than enough to light the system up.
Battery terminals and cables Good to go, orange charging lead may have been loose, reconnected just to make sure, inline 30 amp fuse good.
Fuses All fuses good. No juice anywhere at fuse box.
Power lead to starter Connection good, but no juice in any key position.
Firewall plugTightened connection slightly (was almost snug before).
Still nothing.
I know from experience that a fusable link will take out everything all at once, I've just never had one fail with the car off or during starting. The previous failures have alway been while on the fly and needless to say embarrassing and/or dangerous all at once.
Which other components/systems/switches/relays will take out the entire system all at once???
There were no electrical changes or alterations performed during the transmission swap outside wiring the TCC switch to the 5 pin connector instead of the previous 4 pin connector. Is that circuit one that could shut down the whole show???
It ran fine for two days with no indications of impending electrical doom, so I'm inclined to think switch/fuse/connector, etc...
Shorts suck and I would like to check all likely componentry first.
Have at it fellas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have AIM, Factory Service and Hayes, feel free to reference specific diagrams and pages.

Torched!!!!

You have such a beer credit here in Arizona and you don't even know it. Thank You TT.
I presume that it being torched is indicative of a major issue/short somewhere else in the system?
How painful is cutting it out and swapping versus replacing those harnesses?

the plug is just a lousy design, it's not up to the tast w/ all the juice running through there, it's actually a pretty common problem, especially on the late cars w/ all the electronics and the accessories. The fuses are in the wiring itself, fusible links down by the starter however the connector will melt perfectly fine without blowing fuses.
Go to amp, they have a connector that is all single blocks but they can be stacked and clipped together, they are high amp rated and will do much better than the stockers. I had a pic somewhere but can't dinf it. The connectors are blue or black.
EDIT...here it is:

look at the area where the connector is located, you'll see a blue/black connector there, that's all seperate ones stacked together. AMP makes those.
I'll have to come and collect my credit then eh

glad to be of some help When I checked out an 82 for someone some time ago I took it for a test drive and the damned thing shut down on me when I went over a bump...it was that same connector, all melted. The one on my car is in not such a great shape either but I'm redoing the entire wiring so I won't wire it like that (and I'll put the fusebox somewhere where you can actually get at it without hiring a midget from the local circus)
