Dyno Time Is Cheap
This past weekend I did my first dyno runs, ever. The cost was 150.00 and I picked up 18 peak HP and 12 ft-lbs of torque. This was done by just changing jets in the secondarys, three sizes. My scanner took a dump, so I can't post the sheets. But here are the results. I dropped 1 jet size per run. Started with 82s and ended with 79s.
Run 1: 294.3 hp, 336.6 torque
Run 2; 306.3 hp, 342 torque
Run 3 309.8 hp, 346.3 torque
Run 4 312.4 hp, 348.8 torque
I did three other runs, run five I went to 78 jets and lost three hp. and went back to the 79s. I did all of the above runs without the air cleaner, added the ac and picked up another 3 hp. I then did a run and opened the secondaries by hand. I didn't pick up any peak hp or torque, but picked up 10-15hp and 10-15 torque from 3500rpm to 4800rpm, time for a lighter spring on the vacuum secondarys.
For ignition, I was running one of the HEI tachdrive units there selling on the net. I didn't have time to play with timing or the dist. This weekend I am gonna find out if MSD will help and play with the timing and advance curve.
All in all it was a rewarding and educational experiance.
