Default C3 Suspension questions...

So my friend is redoing a car and I was wondering if there are any coilover rear suspension setups for a '75?

He's wanting to take it to the autox now and then so what would you guys suggest to change on the suspension front or rear, and any other components?

Thanks.

Two ways to to go...upgrade or use stock F41 components...check supporting vendors for upgrades..they can also advise you....tires are a major consideration...also,he must decide what class to run..that will determine what mods are appropriate...

If you (your friend) or anyone else is interested I have a set (4) of solid bushed a-arms, a pair of solid bushed (spherical joint) trailing arms and a heim joint rear camber bar setup. e-mail direct. redvetracr@msn.com

Why does he want coilovers? Are they really that much better than the different leaf springs that are available today? I do realize that you may get some deflection with a fiberglass, but the C5/6 are still running leafs and running very well as far as I know

True but they also use an a-arm setup that would minimize any deflection. Also, the biggest reason I've heard for people switching to coilovers is adjustability. (Of course, secretly I suspect it's because they look cool. That's why I want em. )

Yeah adjustability. The class for the autox doesn't matter for him and for the specific one we run (BMW club...all others are in D class reguardless of mods)

At Carlisle this past year I asked the same question of Van Steel who was working on a coil-over set up for the C2-C3 chassis. He seem convinced there were some real benefits to the set up. Don't know if they have finished up on it, but it is certainly worth talking to them about it.

They had a set up on display and it did look intriguing but I believe it was still using the same swing arm arrangement. Again if you're interested, just give them a call and ask them about it.

Good luck... GUSTO

This isnt it, is it? Says *new* on their website. But it is only semi-coil overs on the front. Rear stays the same.

If they need me to install it on my car and drive it through the summer and provide feedback, I'm in.....

No thats not the kit. Those are semi-coilovers. True front coilover should be done shortly and the rears after that.

How much is the rear coilover kit going to run, estimated? Perhaps I should hold off on replacing my rear leaf spring if there is going to be a good rear coilover setup on the way.
