Best book on GM part numbers cross reference to Vettte? & P/S Pump number location?
I have seen several books that cross reference all GM part numbers that will work on a vette.Which one is the best?
Also does anyone know where the part number is located on a
power steering pump?

The part number was on a paper sticker that was stuck on the pump reservoir.
The following are the production part numbers for the pumps. I do not know if they were the same for service.
1967 -69 5698078
1970 -73 7808286
1974 7816847
1975 -79 7818044 Press fit pulley #346289 replaced by #14023175 pulley.
1980 7833299 Metric o-ring connection
1981 1/2 7837233 - 7838904 (retaining ring inside the pump) changed.
1982 7839822 (Output flow was reduced for better fuel economy)

I recently bought the parts interchange manual for 68 - 82 corvettes. I dont know what else is out there, but this one looks pretty good to me. The only problem is I have a 68, and so many of the 68s you look the part up in the book and it shows: useage: 1968 corvette, interchange: 1968 corvette :( MJ

Where did you get this manual? I've had a Hollander's Interchange manual for my Camaro, but I lent it out a long time ago and never got it back.

It's was freakin awesome. I never used it to cross Vette parts, but for my Camaro it ruled. Who would have thought I could use the brake rotors off of a Buick Apollo?
Worth checking out, your local library may even have one.

1968-82 Corvette Parts Interchange Manual
Paul Herd
This is the one I have. Got it from the NCRS store. It's a little hard to locate on their website. I checked Amazon.com and they only have the midyear interchange manual, same author. MJ

Re: Best book on GM part numbers cross reference to Vettte?
I purchased a book that I can't reccomend. It may be the same one mentioned by MNJack above. Mine is called "Corvette Parts Interchange Manual". I have found it almost useless in finding anything from other than a Corvette. For example, I needed an A/C compressor a few weeks ago and went to the book. It indicated that the only interchange would be from another Corvette form 1980 to 1982. On a whem, I went to the local generic junk yard anyway and after a few minutes of roaming around in there, I was relieved to find that vertually all GM cars of that era had exactly the same compressor by part number. I was able to choose the best looking compressor from about a dozen and paid $11.00 for it rather than the small fortune it would have cost me at a Corvette specialized junk yard.

I bought mine on E-bay. About $15.
I have the Hollander. It lists 6 pages of interchangable air compressors.

Just ordered one on-line .... $31.50 with tax and shipping. I'll let you know what is like when I get it.

Jim, thanks for P/N info.I bought the two pumps and don't find a P/n.,but believe they are older auto not later pickup types.
MNJack & Strike3 thanks for the opinion about the book from NCRS.I almost ordered one of those a year ago.
Steve & TRW thanks for info about the Hollander book.I was leaning toward this one. They have them on eBay but they are copies I believe.
THE WANDERER,sure appreciate the web site post.Let me know when you get yours ,how you like it.
