Default Enough Vacuum

Is 9.5 inches idle and 11 inches max enough vacuum to run power brakes and lights in my 74. I'm thinking on getting this engine with these numbers from M&R HT383 480HP/510torque http://www.mandrengines.com/index.html. If not, will a vacuum reservoir to power brakes be enough or will I need a pump. Thanks

Paul,
18 to 22 inches is optimal. 9.5 to 11 is way below that. You will probably need to have large reservoir or a pump to keep those power brakes optimal.
Good luck,
Greg

Mine is less than that and I have no problems. The low vacuum is due to a big cam with a lot overlap.
Keep in mind the vacuum will increase way over that when you let off the gas. So brakes are no problem.
Headlights may be slow. But I did reroute some of the vacuum system to make it work better.
