Default How to tap power from the fuse panel for a new radio

I'm installing a new radio and I need to tap both a switched power source and a always on power source. I think I'd rather get both from the fuse panel. I was thinking I could tap the radio fuse for the switched (obviously) and maybe use the headlights for the always on source - instead of running another wire directly to the battery. Are there any cool connectors for the fuse panel that I can use instead of splicing and butchering my already ugly wiring harness ?? Thanks

There should be 2 or 3 acc spots on the fuse block where u can plug in a 12v line for your radio. Just crimp on a spade end and plug it in. Depending on how worn the writing is u might be able to read it , should say ign or somethin like that. They;ll be single access not double like a fuse. Just stik a meter or test light in to determine whether it's 12v constant or switched on with the ignition. Usually down towards the bottom.

Frank,

If the always on need is for a power amp of some sort, the fuse box is probably NOT the ideal place to connect. If there is high current draw, run straight to the positive battery post. I recommend strongly against tapping the headlight circuit for this.

Yep, the headlight circuit had enough problems without Devo screwing with them. Use the existing switched 12v for the new radio. If there is a need for a memory wire, it is a very low current application so any hot term on the fuse block would be ok. If your installing an amp that needs a lot of juice, that is another matter, It should be connected thru a relay connected back by the battery.

I took my unswitched power from the back of the clock.
All you need is a ring teminal and about a foot of wire.
Its already fused.

one source for unswitched power is at the starter. the thick battery cable goes to the starter solenoid attached to the top of the starter motor.

i bought the GM adapter harness
http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...p?it=70-1677-1
and wired that on to the radio, this way it plugs in to the existing radio dash harness.
this gave me everything except the memory wire which i ran to a constant hot at the fuse box.

There are 3 blades on the fuse block, BAT, IGN and ACC; BAT is constant 12v and IGN is 12v when the key is in the on position
