L88 hood question
This may be a stupid question but can you use an L88 hood without the L88 filtering system and with this is there an advantage over my stock single carb system. My engine is a 502 and I have the aluminum low rise intake manifold and a stock 69 big block hood. I was thinking maybe an L88 hood with one of those KandN extreme lids might be worth a couple ponies. Thanks.

Re: L88 hood question (69ttop502)
Yes, an L88 hood will fit over almost any intake and carb arrangement with the factory type air cleaner (except tunnel ram); however, it really does make more power if you take advantage of the cold air package you can install into it. You get slightly more than 1% horsepower for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit you reduce the incoming air temperature. This can be a very big difference!
In Ludvigsen's Star Spangled Sports Car book it was said that the L88 hood reduced the 0-140mph time by 17 seconds.

Re: L88 hood question (Chuck Harmon)
Kinda on the same topic, but does the L-88 hood have some sort of outside air delivery the engine compartment even without the cold air package, eg. like a cowl induction hood?

Re: L88 hood question (73 LS-4)
If you get the long hood that replaces the wiper door, you have to cut out the opening for the air to come into the engine compartment. Very easy to do and not seen from the outside. The standard hood replacement is usually already open, not cutting needed.
