Instead of rebuilding the 4-speed, why not upgrade to a 5-speeds transmission? There are several option, and all within a price range close to what a rebuild for your transmission costs. Lots of forum members speak nothing but great things about the addition of the fifth gear, and how it's the best thing you can do to our older cars.

I never said $3500. You can install a GM or Ford T5, for around or under $1000.

Call Richard at 937-845-3255. We use him for all our C3 rear ends and Muncie Transmissions.

Do it yourself and keep most of the money in your pocket. Rebuilding the 4-speed is not rocket science. There are several published How-Tos.

Well, I know of several T5s I can buy for $600 plus freight, from salvage yards. They are tested before they are pulled. I can buy them under my name, for the price, and have them freighted or drop shipped to who ever buys one.

The adapter is probably $100 or more, and if a forum member makes one even less. The drive shaft can be shortened at a local shop by you for $50, and other misc parts and things will be small costs. T5 swap for around $1000 isn't bad.

Now...if the motor has gobs of HP and torque, it'd be best to buy a nice race ready high performance transmission...but if you;re on a budget and want the over drive...it can be done.

I have 2 of Ed's transmissions, 1 of which is in my 65- it is a wide ratio with the gear conversion. Works great w/3.36 gears. The other is a close ratio in my 71 w/4.11gears. Ed does a great job, he builds each unit, and is willing to take the time to talk to you personally. Ed Hartnett. 610-623-9381 Lansdown PA

400.00 for the rebuild. Extra if in need of anything, give him a call he is very straight forward, if he tells you 400 thats what it will be when you pick it up also its ready on or before the date he tells you.

I am in the process of rebuilding my t-10 4-speed.....I got a manual for free from a forum member (.pdf) I found a rebuild kit for $199...includes gaskets, synchro rings (what I need), and a few other pieces...I will eventually upgrade to a 6-speed, but for now my engine rebuild comes first....

Good luck

edit: I have been able to do everything so far with my (somewhat limited) tool box.
