Anyone running the Weiand Stealth intake?
I was looking at using this intake because it says it is good from idle to 6,800 RPM. I am building a 383 with Sportsman II heads, Holley 770 Street Avenger, and either a Powermax 272 or 278 cam.
I believe that I will have to get a drop base air cleaner. Is anyone out there running one of these?

More than likely you will, I have a stealth manifold (still in box). I bought it two years ago along with a 750cfm mighty demon carb. I mocked it up along with the demon and my hood closed with the drop base air cleaner which I have, but it is tight. Hope this helps. I did it this past March when I changed to EB RPM (64cc) heads. I have a 2101 manifold and an EB 1406 (650cfm) carb on the engine now.
I use a drop base air cleaner for this application. This spring I am assembling a 383 engine and will put my stealth manifold and demon carb on this new engine and keep the old engine in storage.

Drop base air cleaner
Hood clearance is always an issue with these vettes especially the 68-72 models. I wanted to switch over to an electric choke and found the Holly Street Avenger series carbs fit the stock drop base air cleaner perfectly. The air cleaner base was designed to work on both the Q-jets and the Hollys. Just look at the design. I have an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake manifold with the Holly Street Avenger and a stock hood and I have just enough clearance. You can get about 1/4" to 1/2' more clearance with the ol tried and true Edelbrock Performer intake as well. The Performer RPM won't fit the stock hood but it will fit if you have a big block/LT-1 Hood.

It's actually a hair shorter than the Performer RPM. Go to the Edelbrock website and they show the height there. I really wanted to run the Performer RPM but I knew it was too tall and I really did not want just the Performer manifold so the EPS is a nice alternative. I have seen those Stealth manifolds before and I really questioned the 6800 rpm range. I think the Edelbrock numbers are much more realistic.

I'm running the Wieand 8000 ("mid-rise") manifold on a '73 w/SBC with the OEM cowl induction hood (without the the sealed air cleaner assembly). You have the same hood, I believe ( but I could be wrong). I have a standard aftermarket 1" or so drop base 3" open element air cleaner and have about 3/4" inch clearance. Check the Wieand specs, the Stealth manifold is different by 1/4" or so I think--been a while, and right now I'm tired and can't remember which way
Hope this helps a bit,
John.

Performer Air Gap & EPS are about 1/4" taller than Performer 2101.
You are in good shape on hood clearance w/76 hood.
The 76-79 med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPM & others on SB w/ aftermarket dropbase 1 1/4", about 3" filter & Holley.
