Default 81 cruise control unit help

Looks like the previous owner had problems with or just by passed the cruise control transducer. Hooked the speedo cable straight to the tranny instead of through the transducer. Speedometer seems to be reading much slower than it should. Does the cruise control transducer change the caibration to the speedo? Or should it be the same, with or without the transducer being used? Also, how do you check to see if the transducer is still working?

When I got my 79 it was like yours with the transducer by passed and used only 1 cable instead of two. The speedo ran fine and seemed on the money. You may have a kink in the cable or something.

The $15 speedometer cable could be worn out. Mine got worn out awhile back and I thought it was the transducer being a punk, turned out to be the cable. Try a new set of speedo cables hooked in to the transducer and see if your speedo still works. If it does, then test your cruise control. If that works, then you'll be very happy as that cruise control system works like a charm! Mine works better than some newer cruise control systems.

Cool. I'll try the new cables first.

That's a good price, but it's not complete. That transducer alone will usually run ya $90. It's missing the big vacuum gizmo that holds the throttle in place.

I paid 100 or better for my transducer.
