Put mine in last month!!! What a world of difference. Of course I also rebuilt the entire front end of my 72, but the feel is amazing. For me it actually tightened up the steering as there was so much slop before. I drive with much more confidence that is for sure.

Custom blueprint/rebuild of the stock OEM box(NOT a mass rebuilt box) -one of the best mods I have ever done…..zero play..another option to R&P and Borgeson..

I just bought one from Vansteel (not yet installed). After consulting with them, and considering the price difference, I opted for a Borgeson box vs the Steroids.

Holy. A thread from the dead.

I have a steeroids on my '78. Fit perfect. No header mods. All 100% bolt on, as advertised. Somewhere on the steeroids website is a tech section, there is a page outlinig what headers will or will not fit and which one will need modified to fit.

Ive had it on my car for 5 years or so now. Zero issues. Im a semi DIY guy and I managed to get this on without major issues, save for a pro alignment afterwards.

Added the headers afterwards.

Oh yeah....added a steeroids spreader bar as well. Well worth the money IMO.

I installed the Flaming River in my 79, but had a lot of issues with side pipe headers. Had to cut #1 header tube and reroute it. Not a simple job with SS headers. Once I got it all installed I realized that the passenger side inner tie rod end was 1-1/2" too short, had to make an extender. after conversation with Flaming River they sent me the schematic of the r/p. It was suppose to be 41-1/2" from tip to tip, mine was 40". Apparently they use the same r/p for all different type of vehicles, the only difference is the cradle and the extenders on the inner tie-rods. Mine called for 1-1/2 extender on the passenger side, it appears that it may have been left out. They wanted me to take it back out and check under the boots to confirm this, a lot of work to take it back out. still looking for the courage. But, that being said, they were really helpful and really wanted to help sort the problem out. The cradle is really strong, 1/4" material and fits well. SS hose kit comes with the kit. There was a little issue getting the universal joints to line up. The steering is great. Love it. Maybe a little quick from what I am use too. There is something you may want to keep in mind no matter what rack u choose. You will probably want to get you caster set to around 4-5* in order to get the car to return to center. It fits really tight to the bottom of the car. A little tighter than I would like with my 7 qt base pan. Search threads posted on the subject Flaming River vs Steeroids, I posted a bunch of pics of the system.
Any r/p you install, I'm pretty sure u will love. You'll surly want to install an OD tranny. Best 2 upgrades I ever made on the old vette. Just finished installing the lock-up today. Good Luck...

It was a 7 year old thread. I don't think Borgeson was selling their conversion back then.

NOPE, but I beat you ALL and found a NEW junkyard rack from a Grand Am and did my own engineering back winter 01-02 runs fine still today, and my mounting brackets are more stable and lighter weight....

and I used just TWO universal joints on the steering input.....

OH, total price about 200 bux......

Just saw the write up and pics. (Should have googled before posting)

Im thinking of a Steeroids but fundage dictates swapping my L48+th400 to 383+th200 first.

If i can get more hands on and keep the cost under $500, I can do all 3.
