Just keep your int. dur. figures pretty simular so the power band
will be roughly the same hydraulic roller will have more lift, a hydraulic
roller will have a little broader power range then a flat tappit cam
so you could go up a little on duration and still be ok as long as
you have the comp. to support it say 9.25 to 9.50.

Okay, looks like it's ironing out okay. I can use the 118 heads, a small dome piston to get the comp to around 9.25 or 9.5, and get a Hyd. roller cam similar to what you posted with a possibly higher duration.
Thanks so much for the help.

I've only seen 4 types of Gen 6 heads. First is the L-29 Vortec head, great exhaust but intake is lacking. 100cc chamber, great compression ratio and good for torque. Second is peanut ports, can't remember the casting number off the top of my head, good for trucks and doorstops. Third is good ol' rectangular port heads. Very similar to 990's but the short turn seems a bit tighter to me. Fourth is a semi-closed chamber true large oval. Except for the shape of the water passages, it looks identical to the old -215, -290 and -063 castings. If you have those, they might be a good starting point. Keep in mind that except for the rectangular port heads, all Gen 6 stuff I've seen has non-adjustable valvetrain.
That's all great info man, thanks. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good site with all the Gen6 castings and their port and chamber sizes. That would just be great.

you would be a better off around 220 at .050. hydraulic roller is
going to give you a 500 rpm wider powerband then a flat tappit.
the extra dur. would help stop chances of ping better.
Still have the cam card on my 454, 3.36 gears, M21 trans, 220 low gear 73 vette, 310/320 adv. duration. 560/580 lift LSA 108, 87 degress of overlap. Car was few months old when I changed everything but
the two bolt block, dist, oil pan, water pump, balancer, flywheel.
power brakes worked fine, headlights came up not a problem keep
in mind car was brand new. still had torque with that much cam
it was a freeway flyer though not a drag car.

Because it has NOTHING to do with what I asked in the original post. In no way was I asking for opinions about whether or not my 405 has been installed or ran. I asked about heads for a 454.
Your comment was did not help and has nothing to do with this thread.

If a late model vortech head has a 100cc chamber and older
style size oval port heads you are in decent shape for compression
and breathing, probably around 9.0 on comp with flat top piston.
Thats liveable good for fuel not redicules on compression.

Okay, I've done a little research, and found a bunch of casting numbers of heads I think will work. One I found, an '85 - '87 truck head, 14081052, says HiPerf but doesn't have a chamber CC. It just says oval. Anyone familiar with that casting?

Hey
DB, I'm getting my short block hopefully this month and you'll see that 118cc chambers will work. I've got SRP pistons and I'm suppose to get between 9 and 10 to one. I'm using 781 castings.
