Default ZZ502 Superram Hype thread #42

Hey guys... Ive been gone for a while. Been at busy at school and havent been at home to work on the vette. Thankfully im going back home in 2 weeks for 3 months to finish this girl up. Ill be adding updates to this thread as i move along. Plan to start her up by the end of june. Expect a video to come.

I would have already started her up but when i was trying to get it setup I could not figure out what was going on with the distributer. I have the Accel DFI controlling everything so naturally i got their Dual Sync Distributer. When i was trying to set it up i could not get the lights to light up correctly, i tried everything, even rewiring the whole ignition system. Still could not figure it out so i called Accel and they said its probably the distributer that is bad. Send it out to them and sure enough, the board inside was bad. That took a while out of my time over the winter.
Build list:
ZZ502 base from GM
Accel Superram Multiport injection w/DFI ecu
Tko-600 from Keisler
Rebuilt rear (3.03 in there now, probably going to change that out)
Electric headlight motor conversion
Dewitt radiator and AC condenser
Dual Spalls
Moroso oil pan
March Performance serpentine conversion w/AC and PS
Chrome Master cylinder/brake booster
All new SS braided hoses
New brake calipers (oring) and slotted rotors
VBP Dual monoleaf conversion
Hooker Sidepipes
LM-1 Wideband
Autometer gauges - Speed, tach, oil, clock, volt, water, ect
Interior 100% covered in dynamat
Brand new interior - dash, carpet, recovered seats
5% tinted glass t-tops
80-82 rear bumper seamless
seamless front bumper
Boyd Coddington Rims 18x10 rear 17x8 front

And im sure there is a ton more

Anyway Im writing this list more for myself than anything else but these are my priorities:
1. Set up the distro
2. Finish installing all of the gauges
3. Weld in the wideband o2 sensor
4. Finish hooking up the new SS hoses for both power steering and AC
5. Fill with fluids and check for leaks
6. Check everything on the computer
7. Start her up and rough tune
8. Make sure brakes are working
9. Finish all the minor interior stuff and work out all the minor bugs
10. Take her to the dyno

Anyway, here are the latest pics.. not the best but i promise more when i get home

Some pictures

AC - All AC, fuel and Power steering lines are now Stainless braided AN fittings

Interior - Some gauges in everything else wired and just needs to be connected.

Intake manifold

Very nice! That hoodscoop looks great too. What are the other specs on the motor? Comp., cam, etc.

Its a straight up zz502, nothing changed inside so:

cubic inches: 502 Cubic Inches
horsepower: 502 Horsepower @ 5,200 RPM
torque: 567 ft/lbs @ 4,200 RPM
compression ratio: 9.6 to 1
block: Gen VI, Cast iron, 4-bolt, 4.470" bore
pistons: Forged Aluminum
crankshaft: Forged steel, 4.000" stroke
head, chamber size: Aluminum, oval port, 110cc chamber
valve sizes (i/e): 2.25" / 1.88", Stainless steel
camshaft, lift (i/e): Hydraulic roller, 0.527" / 0.544"
cam duration (i/e): 224 / 234 degrees @ 0.050 lift

Im going to keep it that way for while probably. Until i get crazy and blow this bitch.

Quick question, this cam should be fine with the EFI, yah?

You could sure get the old with a 250 shot. The zz502 bottom end is pretty stout...

You'll forget all about those Small blocks when you do your first block long burnout just by squeezin the go pedal

Just don't ask me how I know!!

You already have the hard part licked.....the hood. That 502 sits in the engine compartment alot easier than a LS-7 would and now you have all that BB torque. I can't imagine what you are in for if you feed it some giggle juice

Mike, What Accel ECU are you running? Gen VII? I noticed you said you went with the Dual sync distributor, so I assume you are going with sequential injection. That cam is the same one they use in the RamJet setup so it will be fine for FI. Let me know when you get it dialed in, Maybe we can share calibration files, My RamJet setup should be very close to yours. I pitched the RamJet MEFI 3 and am in the process of installing the Gen VII.

Good to hear. I am runnig the Gen VII ecu in sequential. What made you ditch the RamJet ecu and go with the DFI? I plan to start her up with one of the generic files that comes with the DFI system and drive it (carefully) straight to a dyno for a real tune.

Something i just realized though - I believe the injectors that came with this kit are going to be small. Im probably going to have to order new ones.

As for the hood:

Second one on that page. Cut down and molded to my original hood and the mesh is from the front grill of a totaled CTSV. Turned out perfect IMO
