Garage Space Heaters
How do you guys heat up your garages? What space heaters do you use and are you happy with them. I have an Omni 85 which just radiates heat but it takes a while to heat up the area. I was thinking about one of those torpedo types with a blower. Any suggestions?

Natural gas. :) The previous owner installed a natural gas furnace to keep his motor home warm.

Last winter, I installed a forced air gas-fired unit that hangs down from the ceiling. I forget the btu rating, but it will warm up my 3-car garage in less than 10 minutes. I like that it's out of the way and is controlled by a thermostat. Graingers sells several different models.

I'm using a kerosene heater--Reddy Heater, 60,000 BTU. I believe it's what you're calling a torpedo type. I bought it at Home Depot, and that thing is extremely powerful. I worked on my rear suspension rebuild during last winter, many times with the two garage doors wide open. One of the best purchases I've ever made!

Actually, down here in Florida, it's just getting cool enough that you want to work out in the garage. I've been avoiding the garage because it was like an oven out there. Now it's nice and comfortable. Our problem is air conditioning the garage in the summer!!!!

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me order one of these Modine Hot Dawg heaters for my garage. A buddy of mine has one and they are nice.
Here is a link to a distributor. http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/acce...ers.shtml?goto

I have a Modine unit. I mounted it in a corner of the Garage. The Furnace is on the other side of the wall so it was pretty easy for the guys to hook it up. It runs off the electric, and uses the hot water from my furnace/oil burner. It then blows out hot air from the built in fan. It has it's own zone so you can set the temp anywhere down to 40 degrees in the garage. The garage warms up real quick too. I have a 760 square foot 3 car garage. That was 3 years ago. It's never burped.
It's actually a little bigger, and so is the bench, then this photo shows.

I'm using a 20,000 BTU Kerosene unit. It's a remnant of the '80's. It takes about 30 min to heat up a 2 car garage as long as it's not zero outside.

Koz,
Just finished install of a Graninger forced air furnace. The type that Tex71BB has installed. I put in a 60,000 btu unit burning propane off of two 40 lb. tanks. Thermostat controlled. Heats a 780 sq. detached garage real nice and quick but have'nt had any real cold weather yet.
Be careful with the torpeodo units. You'll need plenty of fresh air. Don't want you to go t-t's up on a cold day.

427V8,
Sorry I missed your post the other day. I bought this unit thru Graingers. They have several models and price ranges. I paid a little more and got the low profile, [can mount 1 in. from the ceiling if you want] powered exchust, solid state ignition, can side exchust it if you want.
Got discount thru where I work so it ran a little over $500.00. Tryed finding a used one in the paper for weeks but no go. Bit the bullet and said new is good.
