Default 4 speed transmission and rear end fluid questions

Greetings!

I want to empty and replace the gear oil in my 4 speed transmission
and rear end, but I am unsure what oil to use, weight and quantity.

For: 1970
300 Hp
350 Hp

Does the 300 Hp and 350 Hp rear end and transmission hold
the same amount of fluid?

Thanks.

For the rear, I only use GM rear oil with the posi additive. The trans takes the same but no additive necessary. 300 and 350s even 427s use the same exact trans and rear, so I will let you decide if the volume is the same.

Wombvette,

If the 300 and 350 are the same,
how much fluid did you put in your
rear end and transmission?

Thanks.

I am sure that there is a specification, but who pays any attention to that? Fill until it runs out of the fill hole, and its full.

Good call.
Sorry, I wasn't thinking.

Use Torco gear oil for your Muncie 4speed Redline and others can cause synchro problems. Lucas and Synergyn also have good gear lubes for the old Muncies/differentials. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY from Redline MTL lube, it dosent work!

...i use streight 90 grade (it's better then a 75/90) full sint for the 4 speeds trans and valvoline 75/140 grade full sint for the diff....

both trans and diff are still surviving to my right foot hammering and my 570hp 406 engine, so the choice can't be bad

Where can I find the gear lube your speaking of.
I haven't changed it yet - bought 80/90 Valvoline 89/90 syn blend,
along with an additive for the posi, but I can return the Valvoline if
there is something better. I have no problem paying more for my baby.

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with GM gear lube, imo. However, I use Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube, available at any auto parts store, and I add the original GM posi additive that I get from my local Chevy dealer.
