Dart Iron Eagles or Sportsman IIs?
Decisions Decisions....
For use NOW on a 350 with TRW forged flat top pistons that will later become a 383.... which heads would be best:
World Products Sportsman II or Dart Iron Eagles
Both would be 200cc intake, 64cc, 2.02/1.60 valves
Would 64cc be too small for today's gas? go 72?
Thanks,
Jim

i just put on the sportman 2,s 72cc with 11.1 lt-1 pistons in it and no ping with mid grade gas in it and 14 degrees timing..i noticed ahuge difference in low end torque with the heads over a ported set i had on it..

how much is a huge difference pat?
I was reading on here that there are some deffects in the World products heads? I forget the part that was the problem, though i would assume the tread is still active :yesnod:

a world of diffference(get it world products)the problem is the inner valve springs but i havent see any problem yet but only been a couple of weeks..today i took it out for a good run and from a stand still tromp on it and it just sits and spins it wouldnt do it before with other heads unless you flash the converter then it would spin but now its right there .now its time for a better shortblock.

Weren't World and Dart the same company 5 or six years ago???
...anyway jimbr, check out the other live thread on the sportsman II's.
You might want to consider getting them bare, and buyin' the guts yourself.
I'll summarize my woes...
1) Spring dampeners are prone to break.
2) Spring install height is 1.82" ( can't get proper tesion from 1.7" springs)
3) Rocker studs are not straight and true.
4) Umbrella oil seals are chewed up by damper, due to seal having too large of an O.D. or the damper has a too small I.D.
I do like the performance of the casting itself... and if I were to go this route again, I would get the bare castings, install the Manley street-flo valves, get some teflon oil seals and have the valve guides machined to accept them, buy some ARP rocker studs, and figure some spring combo out that'll match yer cam.
I also recommend those Comp Cams pro-magnum 1.52 roller rockers, I started out with the stamped roller-tip ones, but I gained a lot in performance from these on my 383.
I don't know what'll happen with yer flat tops but I've got the 64cc heads, and I've got KB 18cc dished pistons... which puts me around 9.3 or 9.4 to 1, and I can run on 87 octane and save some $$.
Check out my sig... I don't have a timeslip or dyno-sheet yet, but I've had some reputable people estimate I'm making betwen 400 - 450 hp.
Check out Nastee383's combo and sig. too...

'75 383 in Elk Grove? CA? We're neighbors! I'm in Rocklin.
Are you fitting that motor combo under a smallblock hood? Do you belong to a Corvette Club?

Sorry jimbr,
I'm located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois... about 20 mintues from Chicago.
And yes, I fit everything under my stock hood, (with minor sacrifices, due to the Rpm Air-Gap).

I've had the Sportman II's on for 4 years now and have been very pleased. :)
