327 vs 350 Harmonic Balancer....
#2
it will work on a 327, but in 69 chevy changed the groove
position in the balancer and the timing cover tab to match the
change. Just make sure your using the later style timing cover
with the later balancer, or an adjustable pointer. The small
journal 327 had the early timing cover and balancer.

That's exactly what I was getting at. I have 50* advance BASE timing. WTF? How can I tell if my tab is coorect for the balancer? Here's the balancer I'm running:
Here's the specs:
Professional Products balancer / damper. 8" diameter. For internal balance V6 and V8s including 283, 302, 305, 327, and 350 (may require different pointer or pulley set up due to the wide variety of GM factory arrangements)
And here's the tab I currently have:

If you really want it right find top dead center use an adjustable timing
pointer. Small block 8 inch damper, Polished SUM-163600, black SUM-163800.
