Engine Designations & Cam Durations
I think just about everyone knows LT1, L88, L82, etc. but does anyone know the codes for the following engines?
68’ Base 327
69’ Base 350
69’ 350/350
On a separate note, does anyone know the duration of the stock 68’ 327 cam at .050”?
Finally, was the LT1 the only small block in the C3 to use mechanical lifters?
Thanks!

For 69 the base (300HP) was L48 and the 350 horse was L46.
The suffix codes as listed by Durango can be decoded to the engine size, HP, trans application and some options.
I believe you are correct in stating the LT-1 was the only C3 small block with solid lifters but they were used in HI PO C2's as well.
Can't help with the .050 duration specs

YES! LT-1 was the only small block Vette with a "real" cam in it (solid lifter cam.) My wife thinks her 1970 LT-1 roadster needs a BIGGER cam like my 72 LT-1 has (thats why I love her so much!) Quote: it's too quiet! I want a motor that lopes at idle like your 72 Vette (motor is a 370HP LT-1 in her car.)

You can go all the way back to the 265 ci small block engines and all the high HP engines were solid lifter engines. Even some of those in the passingers cars were solid lifters. The dual quads and FI cars were split as some FI`s were solid and some hydraulic, the same with quads. However the LT1 350`s were the only solid lifter engines in the C`3`s. ...

To answer the poster's second question, if it is a 350HP L-79 327 then the durations are 224/224 degrees at .050". If it is a base 300HP motor, then the durations should be 194/202 degrees at .050".
