Default 1980 vette with holley carb

This is the problem, when i try to start the car, need to pump the gas a couple of times, and it takes a while for the car to start. I give it some gas and then put it in reverse and the car shuts off. Also, when I stop at stop signs, the car shuts off. A buddy of mine told me its the carb. I changed the fuel filter and that didn't help much. Any ideas on what this could be?

Cold starting problems are generally the choke.

There are plenty of carb tuning threads on this forum. Do a search or go to corvettefaq.com and study Lar's "How to set up a Holley" paper.

Start from the begining go thru the whole process. If you still have trouble after the set up then you may have a problem with your carb. But do the baseline set ups first so you can eliminate that as the cause.
