I looked into this a little at one time quite a while back so my memory is hazy. The Northstar is a great engine. The transmission bolt pattern is different than the standard Chevy. I think acessories are tall in front which will be a hood clearance issue. I really think you are better off with an LSx engine IMHO.

I say do it if you can. Sure the LSx may be easier and in the end produce more power, but that's usually the way it goes when you follow a path. If you can afford to do it and over come the potential obstacles, I wish you the best of luck. I think it would be really cool. I'd start with an STSv engine if you can find one. That's a blown Northstar under the hood of that car.

my daily driver is a 96 deville.
If you have a donor engine and thats why you are thinking about this, make sure you replace the intake. Its plastic and they don't recommend using it on a rebuild. I think I read somewhere too that rebuilds don't make sense on this engine, or that its more economical to just buy a new one...
if you want to go cadillac then look for an old cad 500 engine.

Why? Because the northstar is a nice looking engine being dohc and it's somthing different. I would do a northstar TT if they were as readily available here as in the US because the only real drawback I see is the small displacement
Why would you want a lump like a caddy 500 in there?

The only RWD trans that I know will bolt up is a V-6 200R4 from a few of the 90's cars. And it doesn't bolt up perfectly. I'm sure if you look on the hot rod sites there might be an adapter out there to buy. You would be better off putting a 32 valve Lexus motor in there. At least most of those are set up for truck or rwd.

Why??
The Northstar's all aluminum architecture is more along the lines of something you'd find in an IndyCar. It is a very very good design, light in weight and highly efficient. Even the "tame" versions are putting out more than 1HP/CID, but having had a couple of them I would believe that HP ratings are still somewhat on the conservative side.
The supercharged STS-V version is a little monster... From only 267 cid, 469 hp at 6400 rpm 439 ft·lb at 3900 rpm, delivering 90% of its peak torque between 2200 and 6000 rpm, redline is 6700. (That's over 140 HP more than the larger cid naturally aspirated version.) 1.75 HP / CID, 100+ HP / liter places it among the most powerful production V8's in the world.
Displacement 4.371 liter / 266.7 cu in
Bore / Stroke 91.0 mm (3.6 in) / 84.0 mm (3.3 in)
Compression ratio 9.0:1
Valvetrain 4 valves / cylinder, DOHC
