How can I get about 425 hp and be driver friendly with...
I have the stock 350 and am planning on the 383 conversion with vortec heads. What compression ratio and cam might get me into the 425 hp catagory. I am currently running dynomax coated headers with true duals and 2 chamber flowmasters with no cat. I realize I will need the matching intake. What carb would you recommend?
I was thinking about 10.5:1 comp and the Comp Cams 272 cam with a good 750 cfm carb with elect choke.
What is the size of these heads 58, 62 or 64 cc or what?
I plan on a four speed tranny unless I can find a six speed. I insist that it be easy to drive as a daily driver and need to keep the cost down right now.

Chevy High Performance maganize does these build up's quite often, maybe you can find someone that has some back issues. At least start buying them now.

Holley 750 w/ Performer intake w/ your headers will do it. You need larger heads 180-200cc & correct cam. Check your cam choice no.

i agree you need CHP magazine.
keep the cost down with a 350.
Buy better heads, as Ganey said, then, if 410-419 HP won't do, later on do the 383.
I am so pleased with both my 355's i won't even consider a 383. (but i did "supertune" them) see my article http://community.webtv.net/MATTGRU/AFtesting

Couple of issues ago, Chevy High Performance ran a series on a 420 HP 350. Basic buildup was a solid short block with Vortec Heads, GM HOT roller cam and Performer RPM manifold. Cost was listed as $2400.
I'll post more #'s when I get home and can dig up the article.
That said, if you are rebuilding and have to replace rods, crank anyway, it is only a small $$ surcharge to get to the 383.
