Default wiring diagram differences

I've got the Corvette 1966-1982 Shop Manual from Motorbooks and it has two sets of wiring diagrams. There is a set with the fat lines on pages 14-20 through 14-23 and a set with skinny lines on 14-25 through 14-30. The skinny lined one has more detail of the switches and fuse panel, but includes wires that aren't shown on the fat line diagram. For example, the fat line diagram says nothing about a sequencing module as shown on page 14-29 on the skinny lined one.

The book does not explain the difference in the diagrams. Are these for different years or for different optioned cars? Which one is right for my 69?

I just bought the same book and was not happy with the content. I'll be getting another manual.

I am in the same boat as you guys!
It seems no matter what manual you have, they all seem to have poor wiring diagrams.

I want to replace the complete wiring harness in my 69 vert and wanted to be fully armed with the knowledge of the electrical system.

I entend on replacing every switch and relay, along with the harness in this car, including the fibre optics, which seems to be another mystery subject in these manuals!

I will take digital pictures of everything before touching it, for further reference,I'll save these pictures so I can share them with those who might need them, perhaps someone else has already done this and could help us out?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Generic wiring diagrams are OK for simple repairs as GM kept colors constant over the years. If you want to do any real work you need to buy a poster size year-specific diagram from some of the vendors.

Buy Dr. Rebuild. I have a 1971 and the book is wrong. Jack Humphrey wrote an article on the CEC solenoid and the correct wiring diagrams didn't come out until May 1971 issue of Chevy Service News--they used the 1970 wiring diagram.

Buy the Doc Rebuild. I just finished wiring my 70 front to back and the rebuild diagram was great. The AIM was helpful for locations.

For my 77, I have the AIM, Service Manual, Overhaul Manual, Electrical Troubleshooting Manual and the Wiring Diagrams from GM. With those books, there is little that can't be accomplished. Don't buy the crap aftermarket books - I have a Hayes that gets used for quick torque lookups and nothing else.

Olson Engineering (Don Olson) has the best (color) drawings I have used. He also has Vacuum.
