1980 Rear End Gear Ratio
Was a 3:55 the standard gear ratio in a 1980 vette ?? I have to get a new speedo driven gear for the trans (350) automatic, and am trying to figure out how many teeth gear i need. The drive gear in the trans looks to be orange and the car has 255/60/15 tires. Any idea what speedo driven gear( teeth) i need??? Thnx Dave

NO! I'm not positive, but I think the ratio was either 2.87 (like my '81) or possibly 3.05 (maybe on th L-82s?). I'm pretty sure no 3.55 was offered then.
You can find out for sure by jacking up the rear end, having someone turn the rear wheel exactly one revolution and counting (measuring) how far the drive shaft turns.
God bless. Sensei
